Roderick Von King is a former aerospace engineer turned multidisciplinary creator whose work spans music, award-winning fiction, personal development writing, and screenwriting. Holding a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Computer Science, King transitioned from a successful engineering career into full-time storytelling — blending technical precision with creative passion.

He is an award-winning author, published songwriter, screenwriter, and founder of The Literary Launchpad, a full-service publishing accelerator under Vee Kay Enterprises, LLC. His debut novel, Why Didn’t We Love?, won the International Impact Book Award for Romance in 2024 and contributed to his recognition as International Impact’s Author of the Year (Hollywood) 2025 in the fiction-romance category. His follow-up book, Altar Call – An Honest Depiction of a Path to Salvation, earned both the International Impact Book Award for Personal Transformation and the ChristLit Book Award for Christian literature.

Beyond literature, King is developing Last Night in Trinidad, a multimedia project inspired by years of Carnival experiences, featuring original Soca music collaborations with Trinidadian artists and Steel Pan arrangers.

Interview

Q1: You began your career in aerospace engineering. What inspired the shift into storytelling and creative arts?

Roderick Von King:
Engineering trained me to think in systems, processes, and structure. But storytelling has always been in me. Music was my first love. Eventually, I realized I could apply the same systems engineering mindset to creative projects — from songwriting to publishing to screenwriting. Once I saw that bridge, the transition felt natural.

Q2: Your debut novel Why Didn’t We Love? achieved significant recognition. What was the inspiration behind it?

Roderick Von King:
The story came from observing relationships — the choices we make, the pride we hold onto, and the love we sometimes fail to nurture. The book is based on a song written by my childhood friend, Oliver Davis, titled “Why Didn’t We Love?”, which inspired much of the narrative. Winning the International Impact Book Award validated that readers connected deeply with both the story and the emotional journey behind it.

I’ve since adapted the novel into a screenplay, and we’re developing music for the soundtrack to bring the story to life cinematically.

Q3: Altar Call is very different in tone and theme. What prompted that project?

Roderick Von King:
Altar Call grew from one of my songs. It became a personal and spiritual exploration of redemption and transformation. I wanted to present an honest depiction of what salvation looks like — not polished, but real.

The response has been powerful. It affirmed that people are hungry for authenticity in faith-based storytelling.

Q4: Tell us about Last Night in Trinidad.

Roderick Von King:
That project was born from years of attending Carnival in Trinidad. The energy, the music, the culture — it’s electrifying. I collaborated with local Soca artists and Steel Pan arrangers to write over ten Soca songs.

This isn’t just a book or album — it’s a multimedia experience blending literature, music, and film.

Q5: You’ve also launched The Literary Launchpad. What gap are you addressing in the publishing industry?

Roderick Von King:
Many people say they want to write a book — but they get stuck. Either they don’t know where to begin, or they’re overwhelmed by publishing logistics.

The Literary Launchpad helps authors “Stop Talking About It and Do It — Get Into Orbit.” We guide clients from manuscript to market with structured processes, fast turnaround times, and professional coordination.

Q6: How has your technical background influenced your creative ventures?

Roderick Von King:
Systems engineering taught me discipline and process control. Creativity thrives when structure supports it. I use controlled revision processes, workflow automation, and structured milestones to keep projects on track.

Art without structure can drift. Structure without art can feel mechanical. I merge both.

Q7: What advice would you give aspiring authors?

Roderick Von King:
Time waits for no one. If you’ve been saying, “One day I’ll write my book,” that day is now. The key is execution. Ideas are common — finished books are rare.

Build a system. Stay accountable. And don’t be afraid to seek professional guidance.

Final Thoughts

From aerospace engineer to award-winning novelist, songwriter, and publishing strategist, Roderick Von King exemplifies what happens when analytical precision meets creative courage.

His journey proves that reinvention is possible at any stage of life — and that storytelling, when backed by structure and discipline, can truly soar.

Special thanks to Oliver Davis, whose song “Why Didn’t We Love?” served as the foundation for my debut novel and inspired its cinematic adaptation.
